TMI opened an office in Singapore in October 2012 to meet client demand for legal services in Singapore as well as the rest of Southeast Asia. Japanese companies have made numerous overseas investments in this area, and business expansion into Southeast Asia has now become the norm. Singapore has established an important status as a stepping stone toward further expansion into Southeast Asia and as the regional headquarters for Southeast Asian subsidiaries. Singapore has welcomed foreign investment since the country was founded, but it has recently implemented measures to temporarily limit the employment of foreign workers because of concerns about its economic climate, etc. While it is true that Singapore offers one of the most attractive business environments for foreign investment, it is still important to monitor trends in government policies which may abruptly be implemented as and when required.
