Vietnam is a socialist republic under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which a market economy with the adoption of the Doi Moi economic reform policy aiming for “socialist-oriented market economy” at the National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1986. While experiencing economic ebbs and flows such as the Asian financial crisis and the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Vietnam has consistently achieved higher economic growth and its GDP per capita now exceeds US$2,000.

In line with the China Plus One and Thailand Plus One strategies, Japanese investment in Vietnam has accelerated each year since 2011, when TMI opened its Hochiminh Office. Particularly in recent years, M&A, real estate investment, and the expansion into the service industry have all rapidly increased in order to capitalize on the country’s relatively cheap and skilled workforce and promising domestic market.
