TMI総合法律事務所（所在地：東京都港区、代表：田中 克郎）は、名古屋大学法学部（所在地：愛知県名古屋市、総長：杉山 直）への支援の一環として、「TMI総合法律事務所カンボジア留学生奨学金」を創設いたしました。2026年7月21日には、カンボジアで開催された「名古屋大学日本法教育研究センターカンボジア（CJLC）第13期生・第14期生修了式」において、本奨学金の認定式が執り行われました。
本奨学金は、名古屋大学とカンボジア王立法律経済大学（所在地：カンボジア プノンペン、学長：ルイチャンナー、以下王立法律経済大学）が共同運営している日本法教育プログラムにおいて学ぶ優秀な学生を支援し、高い日本語能力と日本法の知識を兼ね備えた人材の育成に貢献することを目的としております。

■奨学金創設の背景

当事務所は、名古屋オフィスを中心として名古屋大学との連携を深めており、教育・研究活動への協力を継続して行ってまいりました。名古屋大学は王立法律経済大学と提携し、同大学内に設置された日本法教育研究センターカンボジア（CJLC）において、日本語による日本法教育プログラムを2008年より展開しています。同プログラムの修了生は、日本法への深い理解と高い日本語能力を兼ね備えた人材として、日系企業や政府機関などで幅広く活躍しています。
また、当事務所の永田 有吾 弁護士は現地における日系企業のビジネス支援にとどまらず王立法律経済大学において講師を務めたこともあり、現地で日本法教育に携わっております。このような活動を通じて、カンボジアにおける日本法教育の社会的意義や、優秀な学生に対する継続的な支援の必要性について理解を深めてまいりました。
こうした背景のもと、当事務所は、名古屋大学及び王立法律経済大学において学ぶ優秀な学生を支援し、日本とカンボジアの交流促進に貢献する人材の育成を後押しするため、本奨学金を創設いたしました。

■本奨学金の概要

本奨学金では、王立法律経済大学で学ぶ優秀な学生のうち、名古屋大学への留学を目指す学生を対象として支援を行います。当事務所は、生活費および渡航費を含む留学費用を支援し、将来、日本とカンボジア両国の発展に貢献する法曹・行政・企業人材の育成を後押しいたします。

TMI Associates Establishes a Scholarship for Cambodian Students Studying in the Faculty of Law at Nagoya University
-Supporting Japanese Legal Education and Talent Development in Cambodia-

TMI Associates (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Managing Partner: Katsuro Tanaka) has established the TMI Associates Scholarship as part of its support for Nagoya University (Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture; President: Tadashi Sugiyama). On July 21, 2026, the scholarship was formally announced during the graduation ceremony for the 13th and 14th cohorts of the Research and Education Center for Japanese Law in Cambodia (CJLC) jointly operated by Nagoya University in Cambodia, with the Royal University of Law and Economics (RULE). 

The scholarship is intended to assist outstanding students studying in the Japanese law education program jointly conducted by Nagoya University and the Royal University of Law and Economics in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Its purpose is to contribute to the development of talented individuals with deep expertise in Japanese law together with advanced Japanese-language proficiency. 

■Background to the Establishment of the Scholarship
Through its Nagoya Office, TMI Associates has expanded its collaboration with Nagoya University and continuously facilitated the university’s educational and research activities. Nagoya University has long partnered with the Royal University of Law and Economics to provide a Japanese law education program in Japanese through the Research and Education Center for Japanese Law in Cambodia established within the university. 
Graduates of the program have gone on to play active roles in Japanese companies, government institutions, and other organizations, utilizing their extensive knowledge of Japanese law and advanced Japanese-language skills. 
In addition, Yugo Nagata, Partner and Head of TMI Associates’ Phnom Penh Office, has not only advised Japanese companies operating in Cambodia but also serves as a lecturer at the Royal University of Law and Economics, where he has played an active role in Japanese legal education in Cambodia. Through these activities, TMI Associates has recognized even more clearly the social value of Japanese legal education in Cambodia and the importance of providing sustained assistance to outstanding students. 
Against this backdrop, TMI Associates established the scholarship to support outstanding students pursuing higher education at Nagoya University and the Royal University of Law and Economics. Through this initiative, TMI Associates hopes to nurture the next generation of legal professionals and future leaders who will strengthen the long-standing friendship, mutual understanding, and academic and cultural ties between Japan and Cambodia – thereby fostering the enduring relationship between both countries. 

■Overview of the Scholarship
The scholarship targets outstanding students enrolled at the Royal University of Law and Economics who aspire to study at Nagoya University. TMI Associates will provide financial assistance covering study-abroad expenses, including living costs and travel expenses. Through this initiative, the firm aims to provide opportunities for the development of future legal professionals, public officials, and business leaders who will contribute to the prosperity and continuing growth of both Japan and Cambodia.

I am truly honored to have been involved in the establishment of the TMI Associates Scholarship.
As a lecturer at the Royal University of Law and Economics, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication of Cambodian students as they devote themselves to mastering the Japanese language and complexities of Japanese law. Their determination and strong desire to contribute to the future of their country have inspired me on countless occasions.
At the same time, it is a reality that many exceptionally talented and passionate students are unable to pursue further studies in Japan due to financial barriers. It is my sincere hope that this scholarship will enable these students to realize their dream of advancing their studies in Japan and serve as a key that opens new doors for their future.
I wholeheartedly look forward to seeing these students thrive in the outstanding academic environment of Nagoya University and serve as strong bridges between Japan and Cambodia, as well as future leaders in the legal, public, and business sectors of both countries.
