TMI総合法律事務所は、この度、15番目の海外拠点（現地デスクを除く）として、2026年9月9日付でオーストラリア・シドニーに新たに「シドニーオフィス」を開設し、業務を開始いたしましたのでお知らせいたします。

当事務所は、2025年3月にオーストラリアの法律事務所Johnson Winter Slattery（JWS）との継続的な提携のもと、同事務所内にシドニーデスクを設置（2026年3月まで）し、オーストラリアおよびオセアニア地域における日本企業の事業展開をサポートしてまいりました。この度のオフィス開設により、現地における独自の活動基盤を確立し、オーストラリア国内のみならず、ニュージーランドを含むオセアニア地域全体に対して、より機動的かつ充実したリーガルサービスを提供してまいる所存であります。

シドニーは、オーストラリア最大の経済都市であり、アジア・太平洋地域を結ぶ重要なビジネスハブです。近年、資源・エネルギー分野、インフラ分野、テクノロジー分野等を中心に、日本企業によるオーストラリアへの投資や事業展開は拡大傾向にあり、両国間の経済的な結びつきは一層強まっております。

シドニーオフィスでは、日本および豪州ニュー・サウス・ウェールズ州の双方で弁護士資格を有する長井 真之 弁護士を中心に、M&A、事業提携、各種規制対応、コンプライアンス、紛争解決等の幅広い分野において、日本企業へのサポートならびに、オセアニア企業の日本進出や日本企業との取引に関する法務ニーズにも対応し、双方向のビジネス交流を支援してまいります。

Establishment of the Sydney Office

TMI Associates (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Managing Partner: Katsuro Tanaka) is pleased to announce the opening of our new Sydney Office in Sydney, Australia, which commenced operations on September 9, 2026, as our 15^th overseas office (excluding local desks).

From March 2025 until March 2026, TMI established a Sydney Desk within Australian law firm Johnson Winter Slattery (“JWS”) under a still-continuing alliance with JWS, and has since been supporting Japanese companies in their business activities in Australia and the broader Oceania region. Through the opening of the Sydney Office, we aim to establish its own local base of operations and provide more agile and comprehensive legal services not only in Australia, but also throughout the Oceania region as a whole, including New Zealand.

Sydney is Australia’s largest economic center and a key business hub connecting the Asia-Pacific region. In recent years, Japanese companies have been showing an increasing tendency to expand their investments and business activities in Australia, particularly in the resources, energy, infrastructure and technology sectors, thereby further strengthening economic ties between Japan and Australia.

At the Sydney Office, led by Masayuki Nagai, an attorney-at-law admitted in both Japan and New South Wales, Australia, we will provide support to Japanese companies across a wide range of areas including M&A, business alliances, regulatory matters, compliance, and dispute resolution, and address the legal needs of companies from around the Oceania region that are seeking to enter the Japanese market or conduct business with Japanese companies, thereby supporting two-way business activities between Japan and the Oceania region.

We will continue to support our clients’ international business activities by further expanding our global network.
