Please see below for the English version.
TMI Associates welcomes Mr. Ippei Murakami as a Special Advisor as of September 1, 2026.
Mr. Ippei Murakami’s comments are set forth below:
Hello everyone, my name is Ippei Murakami, and I am honored to have become part of TMI Associates in September.
TMI’s Special Advisors are leading experts in their fields of practice who have achieved significant accomplishments in their respective fields.
Given the distinguished backgrounds of the other Special Advisors at TMI, I must admit that I feel quite intimidated and humbled, but having been given the privilege of this appointment, I am committed to doing my utmost to contribute to the firm in any way I can.
As you can see from my career shown in my profile page, I have long been engaged in the governance and management of operating companies and incorporated educational institutions. However, although I certainly have experience in being subject to the relevant restrictions and protections, I am a complete novice when it comes to the judicial and public administration fields, while TMI is a general law firm standing at the heart of it all. With that in mind, if there is any way I can best be of service, I believe it would be through sharing the perspectives I have obtained from looking into TMI’s opened windows and doors from the outside as one of its clients. I will endeavor to offer advice at the appropriate timing and place on matters which tend to be considered as a matter of course and may be overlooked or go unquestioned by experts; in other words, those which may only be noticed from a non-expert’s perspective, while taking care to avoid assumptions and biases. I have already been asked to speak at a TMI Institute meeting before long, so I hope to be able to provide a suitable topic to discuss with the participants. Even if we do not reach a definitive conclusion, I believe it will still be meaningful to develop a common awareness of the issues involved.
Apart from the above thoughts in joining TMI, what ultimately persuaded me to accept the offer was my admiration for the remarkable creativity of Mr. Tanaka and the other founding members of the firm with the initials T, M and I. I found the same attractive quality in all of the attorneys in TMI with whom I have previously been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to work.
I have recently read an article in TMI’s in-house magazine, featuring the new attorneys who have joined TMI this year. One of the challenges was to express their guiding philosophy in one or two kanji characters. The three most popular choices were “idomu (challenge),” “manabu (learning)” and “shin or makoto (truth).”
Reading this, I felt as though I had caught a glimpse at the very foundation of TMI’s continuous growth and development, which lies in its ability to recruit individuals who possess a mindset that one must continue to uphold as a member of a law firm.
Once again, I am grateful for the privilege of working together with the members of such a wonderful firm and promise to make my best efforts in adding something of value to TMI, and I would like to conclude my remarks with that commitment to you all.
