In this issue, we provide a summary of the recent amendment to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information of Japan which became effective on April 1, 2022. This letter focuses on steps that should be taken by employers to comply with the amended Act, particularly with respect to the transfer of the employee personal data to other entities. It is advisable for employers to review their existing policies, consent forms and practices for handling employee personal data to ensure that they are compliant with the amended Act.
